Numerical Methods for Fluid - Structureinteractions of Slender

چکیده
An important eld in computational science and engineering is the simulation of the coupled problem of uid ow interacting with a moving structure. A common notation for this is uid-structure interaction (FSI) problems, which include both aeroe-lasticity and hydroelasticity. Herein we give an overview of results obtained within Fluid-Structure Interaction-Structural Design (FSI-SD) a project that is co-funded under the EC-ESPRIT IV/HPCN Simulation and Design (project number 20111). Our main ambition with the present paper is to disseminate the developed computational framework and give insight into some of the numerical challenges involved in addressing FSI-problems related to slender structures. We show that the improved simulation tool developed herein makes it possible to perform realistic numerical prediction of critical utter speed for wind induced vibrations of aerodynamic bridges.

Modeling slender bodies with the method of regularized Stokeslets
The motion and flow generated by immersed structures in a fluid in the Stokes regime can be modeled with a variety of different numerical methods. The mathematical structure of the Stokes equations allows one to describe the flow around a three-dimensional object using only information regarding its geometry. This leads to computational techniques such as boundary integral methods or the method...
متن کاملStatic Nonlinear Aeroelasticity of Flexible Slender Wings in Compressible Flow
A high-fidelity numerical formulation is presented for the high-speed aeroelastic behavior of slender composite wings. The compressible flow is modeled using the 3-D Euler equations on a deformable mesh, and an asymptotic approximation of the 3-D kinematically-nonlinear equations of elasticity models the anisotropic slender structure. The transfer of the distributed loads and displacements at t...

A numerical approach based on the Lattice Boltzmann and Immersed Boundary methods is proposed to tackle the problem of the interaction of moving and/or deformable slender solids with an incompressible fluid flow. The method makes use of a Cartesian uniform lattice that encompasses both the fluid and the solid domains. The deforming/moving elements are tracked through a series of Lagrangian mark...

Development of a numerical model which describes launching of offshore jackets from barge is presented in this paper. In this model, in addition to capabilities of commercial softwares, water entry forces on jacket members and an implicit Newmark solution technique are included. The results are in general agreement with other numerical software’s available (SACS). Fluid forces acting on jacket ...

Modeling of large amplitude of structures such as slender, flexible cantilever beam and fluid-structure resting on nonlinear elastic foundations or subjected to stretching effects often lead to strongly nonlinear models of Duffing equations which are not amendable to exact analytical methods. In this work, explicit analytical solutions to the large amplitude nonlinear oscillation systems of cub...
